Wonderboom Airport
We see Wonderboom Airport as our home. Situated just north of Pretoria, the airport falls under the Johannesburg Terminal Area. Wonderboom Airport is a controlled airport.
Wonderboom Airport has 4 runways, covering most eventualities. This gives us the flexibility to fly basically every day. This is especially important for us in the training environment, as it enables us to expose the students to different situations.
The main runway is runway 11/29. Runway 29/11 is equipped with PAPI runway lights and runway 29 with an NDB letdown facility. The secondary runway is runway 06/24. All runways are asphalt.
The airport and its environment lend themselves to training. Being controlled airspace, the environment provides the student with ample practice in procedures. The general flying areas are in close proximity to the airport (3 minutes flying time). This allows the student to spend more time flying and practicing the exercises rather than transiting from one airspace to another. An additional advantage is that two major international airports namely Johannesburg International Airport and Lanseria Airport, are also conveniently close by. This allows the student to practise ILS landings and NDB & VOR letdowns without having to transit long distances.

An additional advantage is that Wonderboom offers the prospective student good weather. This might sound strange but it does not help if you have a sunny day and the visibility due to smog is so bad that nobody can see what is going on.
Wonderboom airport seldom experiences such weather conditions.
